Timeline
19 June 2006 AIDA Cruises and Meyer Werft enter into a contract for a fourth Sphinx ship,
albeit with an additional half deck forward. There is also 50% more deck
space compared to the previous ships, increased to 8120m2 on this ship.
She would also boast the first shipboard brewery, with a daily output of
500 liters.
25 July 2007 Keel laid for newbuilding 680, the first of 55 blocks that would make up the ship.
11 July 2009 S.680 is floated out from the building dock to the fitting out berth.
4 February 2010 Meyer Werft completes the ship at a cost of US $420 million.
2010 Costa Atlantica entered the port of Warnemunde, Germany, at too high a speed,
causing damage to AIDAblu. It was an omen of things to come, as Costa
Atlantica was commanded by Francesco Schettino, who ran Costa Concordia
aground in 2012.
2016 First refit.
