Yard Data
Meyer Werft GmbH S.700
Timeline
12 June 2015
Contract signed between Meyer Werft GmbH and Spectrum of the Seas Inc. for the construction of yard number S.700 at a cost of €777,510,000. This contract was dependent on parent company Royal Caribbean International's ability to finance the project.
13 November 2015
Spectrum of the Seas Inc. entered into a loan agreement with a banking consortium led by KfW-IPEX Bank to provide the funding for the ship. It stipulated increased values for potential alterations to the ship, although it isn't clear whether the changes from the earlier Quantum-class ships had been incorporated into the design at this point.
15 August 2017
Steel cutting ceremony for S.700. She was intended for the Chinese market, to directly compete with Norwegian Joy, and as such she had some major changes when compared to the earlier Quantum-class ships. As a result, she was designated as the first ship of the 'Quantum Ultra' class. Major changes included the reversion to a twin level dining room, as opposed to the four single-level main restaurants on the earlier ships of the class. Single deck cabins (not the loft suites of earlier vessels) overlooking the stern, a trampoline ball aft and changes to her upper superstructure forward rounded out the major changes.
25 February 2019

18 April 2019
