Yard Data
Fincantieri Monfalcone 6242
Timeline
26 October 2012
Carnival Cruise Line signed a contract with Fincantieri S.p.A. for the construction of yard number 6242, the first in a new class of ships for the popular cruise operator.
January 2014
Carnival revealed the design of their new ship at Lincoln Center in New York City. Carnival's first ship since 2004's Carnival Miracle to have an azipod propulsion system, she was essentially a modified version of their Dream class completed between 2009 and 2012. Carnival had denied Fincantieri's initial proposal, Project Mille, which was later used for MSC Seaside, Scarlet Lady, Norwegian Prima, and Sun Princess. The new ship was the first for Carnival since 1985's Holiday to not feature a large main theater. Instead, she featured a smaller venue, and a number of varied entertainment options.
15 October 2014
The first block was lowered into the construction dock, which signaled the start of the assembly process for hull 6242.
early July 2015
Carnival Vista was floated out of the building dock and moved to the fitting out quay at Fincantieri.
March 2016
Carnival Vista sailed on her sea trials.
29 April 2016
Fincantieri S.p.A. delivered Carnival Vista to Carnival Cruise Line. The ship was valued at $780,000,000 at the time of her delivery.
1 May 2016
Carnival Vista set sail on her inaugural cruise.
4 November 2016
Deshauna Barber named Carnival Vista in the official naming ceremony.
3 June 2019
Carnival Vista lost power to her forward half, affecting lighting, elevators, and air conditioning.
mid-June 2019
Carnival Vista began to experience issues with her azipod bearings, which affected several itineraries.
21 June 2019
It was announced that three of Carnival Vista's cruises would be canceled for repairs to her propulsion system.
12-27 July 2019
Carnival Vista was embarked aboard the heavy lift ship BOKA Vanguard, and became the largest ship ever to use a floating drydock. This was due to the collapse of a crane at the Grand Bahamas shipyard during the refit of Oasis of the Seas, forcing closure of that drydock which Carnival Vista had been scheduled to use.
