February 1994
The Walt Disney Company, through their newly-founded company Disney Cruise Line, finalized plans for two new custom-built cruise ships. They had previously sold cruises in a partnership with Premier Cruise Lines, which lasted from 1985 until 1993.
28 November 1995
Contract signed between Fincantieri S.p.A. and Disney Magic Corp. for the construction of yard number 5989.
31 October 1996
The first block of yard number 5989 is lowered into place into the building dock at Fincanteri, officially signaling the start of the block assembly process.
13 May 1997
The bow section of Disney Magic is floated out of the Fincantieri drydock in Ancona, where it had been built. The segment is towed to Marghera, Italy, and attached to the stern section.
21 June 1998
Disney Magic is completed by Fincantieri.
26 June 1998
Disney Magic is delivered to Disney Cruise Line, through subsidiary Disney Magic Corp., from Fincantieri S.p.A. The ship was valued at $350,000,000 at the time of her delivery.
30 July 1998
Disney Magic departs on her maiden voyage.
16 September 1998
Disney Magic is officially named by Patricia Disney.

Disney Magic undergoes a refit in a drydock operated by Navantia in Cadiz, Spain. A ducktail is added for additional stability and improved hydrodynamics.
