Timeline

19 December 2007 Contract signed between Meyer Werft and AIDA Cruises for two more ships of

the same size and specifications as S.680 (AIDAblu).

20 October 2008 Keel laid for newbuilding 689.

27 February 2011 S.689 is floated out of the building dock and moved to the outfitting quay.

31 March 2011 Meyer Werft completes newbuilding 689, costing US $420 million.

9 April 2011 Christening of AIDAsol by Bettina Zwickler, a fan of AIDA Cruises who won an

online contest to be the ship's godmother.

June 2013 Announcement by AIDA Cruises that AIDAsol would enter drydock at the end of

the year to be fitted with a new propulsion system.

December 2013 First refit, during which she was fitted with the new Rolls-Royce Promas Lite

propulsion system, intended to increase both efficiency and

maneuverability by integrating the propellers and rudders into a single

management system.  This system was designed specifically to be added

to existing ships to achieve the same results as additional hull fairing on

newbuilds.
