Contract signed for the construction of Meyer Werft GmbH yard number S.678, at a cost of €529,846,154. This contract was dependent on Norwegian Cruise Line's ability to finance the project, which was an ongoing process at the time.

NCL Corporation Ltd., Breakaway One Ltd., and a five-bank consortium led by KfW IPEX-Bank signed an agreement to finance the first of a new class of cruise ships for Norwegian Cruise Line, dubbed "Project Breakaway."
