18 September 2003

Aker Yards ASA and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines Ltd. signed a contract for the construction of a new ship, which was given the yard number 1352.  This ship would be the largest passenger ship ever built, surpassing Cunard's Queen Mary 2, and an enlarged version of the earlier Voyager class.


9 November 2004

The first block is laid down in the Aker Yards construction dock in Turku, Finland.


19 August 2005

Freedom of the Seas is floated out of her building dock.


24 April 2006

Aker Yards completed Freedom of the Seas.  Upon delivery, she would be valued at $800,000,000.


12 May 2006

Freedom of the Seas is officially named.


4 June 2006

Freedom of the Seas sailed on her maiden voyage.
