Overview

Celebrity Cruises is the premium segment of the Royal Caribbean Group.  They offer cruises in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and to Alaska, and as a Royal Caribbean subsidiary, they are known for their innovation.  Their ships feature moving bars, grass lawns, and impressive observation lounges, and have become a favorite line for many.

History

The Chandris Line, a Greek-owned shipping company, was founded by Anthony Chandris in 1960.  That same year, Anthony's brother Dimitri founded Chandris Cruises, whch operated Mediterranean itineraries.  In 1974, they merged to form Chandris Line Chandris Cruises, but in 1977 they were renamed to Chandris Cruises after consolidating their fleet to focus on passenger services.  In 1985, they purchased Fantasy Cruises, a Caribbean operator, and began offering vacations as Chandris Fantasy Cruises in that region.

In 2008, Celebrity Solstice debuted as the first cruise ship with over 1000 balcony cabins.
